It’s downright funny to use that term (“artistic expression”) in reference to ME. In fact, if this post is being visited by a family member or close friend, they are double-checking the address for this link, as we speak. If there ever was anyone NOT artistic, that would be me.
But I am a journal-er. In previous posts I have shared about how many journals I have in progress at any given time. So when I heard the term “art journal” being discussed among some of my crafting friends, it was intriguing. As a result of some research into the idea, I am taking a free online class on art doodling, as I start to learn some techniques that I can use in an art journal.
This is my first ever “art” project. When I was almost finished with the piece, I received a phone call that my mother-in-law had passed away (not unexpectedly). That’s when I added “The Lord is my shepherd” to the painting, to mark the significance of this piece.
On the work, I used various media: water color spray, oil pastels, acrylics, several kinds of markers, India ink, white gel pen, and more.
It is fun. I am a realist; I will never be good at this, but I can see how I can use this as a means of “artistic expression,”….yes, that COULD even be me!
Barb - you and I are following the same footsteps towards art journaling. I was another one who had not tried it but wanted especially after Tammy Tutterow had talked about just using a page to try new techniques or products. I, too, have watched the same online workshop videos. She does it with just ease. Good for you for jumping in - it looks great! Janine
Wow, I love this. You are very artistic. I want to start an art journal too and you are inspiring me. This looks great!!
Oh Bard, that page is great! I love it! What a great style. I'm so glad that you stepped into the world of Art journaling, you will really love it.
Hi: I came to visit your blog after reading your note in Tim's Yahoo Group.
It was so touching to read of your mother's passing and that you added the "Lord is my Shepherd" verse to your painting
I love the colours in your piece!
Keep on with your work as it is a personal expression that will develop over time.
This is an awesome first go although I do have one idea. Throw out the word realist! Embrace the word artist. Your page has color & life & you used lots of inky products. Great job!
Don't say you aren't artistic. Take a trip back in your blog and see all your creations. You are artistic and the photos of your son and grandson are beautiful.
I have to disagree about you never being good at this - I could never do something that! I love the colors and shapes. Really incredible piece!
Barb...remember...the art in your journal is YOURS...not mine or someone else's.
There are NO RULES...you did a terrific job with your first page. There are no art journal police...if you like what you've done that's all that matters. If you don't like it...keep adding to it.
I'm so glad you are trying art journaling. Sorry to hear about your MIL. It's always sad, even when not unexpected. Glad you have another creative outlet!
Barbara, this is vibrant and expressive--I'd say you definitely ARE artistic!
Barb, this reminds me of what "art journaling" means for me. You are very artistic and this is beyond beautiful! Thanks for sharing with all of us!
Barb, I have started my first Art Journal also. I took Joanne Sharpe's Online class and I loved it. I am loving working on the journal a little at a time since I'm busy with other crafting. Wonderful page. Thanks for sharing. Sorry for your loss.
I am so glad you are stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things. Check out my blog and my videos, I teach faithart and you would love some of the things on my blog. Let me know!
May God bless you today!
